Meher Today – 2nd November

2 November 1926

On 2 November 1926, the work of dismantling Sai Darbar began, and it was completed the following day. Two days later, Baba permitted the mandali to take rice and dal every other day for dinner, instead of bhakri and tea. This added to Bapu’s burden as he had to cook rice and dal twice a day instead of once.

2 November 1949

On the morning of Wednesday, 2 November 1949, Baba said to the companions, “In this New Life you must be prepared to witness and see me being humiliated in all sorts of ways by you, outsiders, masts, saints or yogis. You must therefore help by not interfering unless I order you to do so.”

He then stated, “If it does not rain on the 10th and 11th, I would like to walk six miles off of the main road — Don to choose the direction. Half the companions will accompany me on the walk on the 10th and half on the 11th.”

2 November 1962

At 9:00 A.M. on Friday, 2 November 1962, the Westerners arrived at Guruprasad. Baba asked them, “Who got wet yesterday?” All raised their hands. “Did anyone catch a cold? No? It was a good dress rehearsal!” All enjoyed the joke.

“Elizabeth, you looked very nice in that brown dressing gown of yours.”

Elizabeth had left the gown in India and she said, “It came back to me after ten years!”

2 November 1962

For the afternoon session on 2 November 1962, 1,000 more chairs had been added inside the pandal. On the platform, the Poona bhajan group was singing when Baba came onto the dais at about 1:45 P.M. As he entered, all 6,000 present rose and shouted repeatedly: “Avatar Meher Baba ki jai! Avatar Meher Baba ki jai!”

Baba embraced a tall Sikh and gestured, “It may rain.”

Yogi Shuddhanand Bharati and Maharani Shantadevi sat next to Baba’s chair on the stage as they did throughout the gathering.
